See it for what it is

The more I practice solitude, the more I enjoy it. Feeling close to God has become a natural state of mind. I’ve been down for quite a while, fighting my spiritual battles. My husband and I agreed to go on a little road trip today to lift my spirits. We visited the Big Four in the Cascades and the ice cave. We sat in front of a small waterfall beside the ice cave and had our lunch. Amidst God’s creation, I was reminded of how small I am. Yet, He created a beautiful earth for me to enjoy. A huge sense of gratitude filled my heart.

Now, I look forward to every quiet moment to encounter God. I meditated for 25 minutes tonight, and although a bunch of random worries popped up, instead of spiraling, I asked God how I should see them.

As I watched all the thoughts pass by, I heard a clear and loud whisper: “See it for what it is”.

And that stayed with me for the rest of my meditation.

Problem A: I see it for what it is. It’s a problem, but it doesn’t mean I will get hurt.

Problem B: I see it for what it is. It’s a problem, but it doesn’t mean I must work hard to solve it.

Problem C: I see it for what it is. It’s a problem, but it doesn’t mean I have to add more worries to my life.

In the light of God, I see it now! I can see it for what it truly is! All the issues I perceive are not truly issues in God’s eyes. As a child of God, why should I let them drag me down? When I see it for what it is, all the fear and worry I carry no longer have a ground to stand on.

Suddenly, I remembered the devotional reading from this morning, from Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God by Mark Batterson:

“All our identity issues are fundamental misunderstandings of who God is. Guilt issues are a misunderstanding of God’s grace. Control issues are a misunderstanding of God’s sovereignty. Anger issues are a misunderstanding of God’s mercy. Pride issues are a misunderstanding of God’s greatness. Trust issues are a misunderstanding of God’s goodness. If you struggle with any of those issues, it’s time to let God be the loudest voice in your life!”

Thank you, God, for being with me every moment of my day!
