surrendering to God’s rhythm
Tuesday mornings have become my sacred space online, where I find deep joy in hosting and sharing Jesus with my Chinese sisters and brothers. No matter the state of my heart, being a vessel for His words brings incredible healing to my own soul as well. Today, once again, I felt God’s words flow through me, and as I spoke, I was amazed by what I was saying. This experience is so wonderful, nothing earthly can compare.
This week’s theme is “surrendering to God’s rhythm,” and I shared this with the group. I sense that this is exactly what we all need right now. After the meeting, I did my daily devotional reading, and it nearly brought me to tears. Here it is:
Follow Me
My daughter, it is a fight to stay close to Me. It is a choice you make each moment. Pay attention to the rhythm of your days, the way you wake—what you do when you first get up, what your first thoughts are, how you approach what is for you to do. Right when you wake, try turning over the plan for your day to Me, first. Before you attempt to accomplish one thing, ask Me what I think of your plan. Can you imagine wiping your list clean, the details scrawled out, and then rewriting it, in my hand, my fingerprints upon the page? Are you willing?
I lead, first one step, and then another. I whisper what is for you to do, one choice, and then another.
Often, there is waiting . . and listening . . . and trusting.
Often, there is stepping out . . . believing . . . risking.
Often, there is looking for my presence in the things you do.
Switching to God’s rhythm
This morning, I decided that I need a system to help me live not by my own rhythm, but by God’s. I found one of my old Chinese coins and now carry it with me everywhere I go. Whenever I’m uncertain about a decision, I’ll leave it to God by tossing the coin. It might seem silly to others, but if it works for me, then it’s worth it!
My day began with the plan to pick up my office keycard. As I was driving out of the neighborhood, I noticed the mountain ahead, shrouded in clouds and gently steaming. The sight was breathtaking. I also passed by a store I’d been meaning to check out because of a food bank sign I’d seen earlier. I wasn’t sure whether to continue with my original plan or turn back and visit the store. So, I tossed the coin—and it told me to go back.
When I pulled into the parking lot, the mountain was still surrounded by clouds, almost as if I were shopping in heaven. After picking up everything I needed, the lady working at the food bank told me it was all free. I later learned they’re only open four hours a week, and I had arrived just 20 minutes before they closed. I was completely blown away.
I’m not entirely sure how food banks work, but this was my first time getting groceries for free—except for that one time I forgot my wallet and God sent a kind lady to pay my bill, asking for nothing in return. To think that I can get these groceries every week, and it’s just three minutes from my house, is incredible. What can I say? My Lord is a provider, and His love for us is boundless.
I’ve been using this coin throughout the day, and I’m truly loving it. This new practice of surrender has completely freed me from the burden of decision-making that usually drains so much of my energy. The more I entrust my decisions to God, the easier it becomes to live in the moment and experience true peace in the present.
Thank You, Lord, for always being with me and providing everything I need for this life.
