This morning, I got up at 7 a.m. and had an hour-and-a-half counseling session with my client. It left me feeling very light and peaceful. I then spent an hour cleaning and organizing the house, which also made me feel light and peaceful.
Later, my husband and I discussed getting an outdoor canopy. Suddenly, I found myself in a familiar state where my mind was racing at 300 mph. I started jumping through various websites, comparing pros and cons, and struggling between what I wanted and what I could afford. After 30 minutes, I was so exhausted that I had to walk away from my computer and meditate for 10 minutes on the couch to recenter myself.
My mind racing at 300 mph is my usual state during work. However, I’m surprised to realize for the first time that different types of activities consume my energy at vastly different rates.
When I follow my heart and do what I’m meant to do, I achieve more with greater ease. I want to remember this and surrender the things that quickly drain my energy to the Lord. My focus should be on my talents and where God has designed me to be.
