Teach me and guide me

In the past few weeks, my morning prayer is, “Holy Spirit, please come, teach me, and guide me through today.” And without fail, He shows up each day! His teachings have become increasingly deep and nuanced. I feel His guidance in the way I cook my breakfast, in the pace at which I drink my water—He is present in the smallest moments. During this deep dive, I uncovered many barriers in my approach that had never come to light before.

The first thing I discovered is how my mind seems wired to wear me down. I lose count of how many times I get distracted throughout the day or how often my mind gravitates toward things that add no real value to what I’m trying to accomplish. For instance, while focusing on my writing, I’ll suddenly feel compelled to check my phone—an unnecessary habit that needs breaking. Just two minutes into journaling, my phone dings with a random notification, and I feel that pull to look at it! In my heart, I know there’s nothing more important than staying in the flow of God’s rhythm. Constantly reacting to every worldly distraction is exactly what the enemy wants me to do.

Do I have the power to resist every distraction? Clearly, no. But do I have the power to resist at all? Absolutely, yes. I’m working to strengthen this ability each day. So, I pray, Holy Spirit, give me strength and focus, lead me away from distractions and draw me closer to Your peace.
